Thunder Valley Sand Drags in Grain Valley, MO held their annual B.A.D. Nationals in late June. Chamber of Commerce weather greeted racers at the Kansas City area track for this event, which was also Race 2 of the 2013 Mid-America Sand Drag Series schedule. Stealing the show on this weekend would be Oklahoma’s Rod Trower in the Thunder Top Alcohol Dragster. Coming into the weekend the track record was held by Michigan’s Frank Martuscelli with a 2.55. Ironically, Frank came out to tune Rod’s Dragster on this weekend, and they didn’t leave anything on the table. In Qualifying, Rod turned a 2.455/136MPH to blow away the old record. There was a strong field on Top Alcohol entries, however, on this weekend with the other two also breaking the old track record in Qualifying. Oklahoma’s Marc Luce ran a 2.510/140MPH while Michigan’s Pat Goodale carded a 2.515/128MPH in the Village Motorsports/RPM Hi Performance entry. The final round came down to a battle between Oklahoma’s Trower and Michigan’s Goodale for all the marbles. Trower would get the job done with a nice pedal job to a 2.56/127MPH to stay undefeated in the 2013 MASD series and also walk away with the new Thunder Valley Sand Drags track record. An all-Missouri final round in the Top Eliminator class would see Terry Glasscock and Tim Hatfield face off for the all the marbles. Tim would leave first, but the Pinto power would track him down as Terry took his second straight MASD series with in a 2.98 to 3.09 decision. Other winners from this event included Joe McNeill (Pro 1 Cars - Sat & Sport Comp), Charlie Curtis (Pro ATV), Rick Hatfield (Pro 2 Cars), Seth Curtis (Pro 2 Quads & Sport ATV - Fri), Josh Mansfield (Sport ATV), Jack Monroe (Pro 1 Cars - Fri), and John Butler (Pro 1 ATV - Fri).
