Sunday

Sunday was another great day of sand drag racing to finish off the SCSDA Racin’ For A Cure event at the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds in Victorville, CA. Another World Record was broken as Derek Balcunas piloting the Larry Minor Motorsports Jeep carded a 2.754 setting the A/Pro Jeep ET record en route to the Pro Mod Unlimited class win. Gary Mink and his “Bad to the Bone” hot rod came out on the winning end of an extremely close Top Alcohol class final round nipping Jake Morton at the stripe. Another extremely close battle saw Paul Taylor emerge victorious in the Top Eliminator final reaching the finish line first by just three-thousandths (.003) of a second. MPC Racing’s Mark Ratliff nearly finished off an astonishing double double up weekend as he won two classes on Saturday, then went on to with the Motorcycle Pro 1 category on Sunday before turning on the red light in Motorcycle Pro 2 handing the win to Randy Mings. Craig Durning was flat out on his game on Sunday as he piloted “Eugene the Jeep” to the Pro 1 victory defeating Michigan racer Nick Beaudoin in the final round. Other winners on the day included Joe Simeone (Pro 2), Charlie Johnson (Pro 3), Luz Malan (Powderpuff Cars), Heather Taylor (Powderpuff ATV), Troy Adamson (Junior Dragster), Derek  Partida (Juniors), and Braydon Myers (Peewees). **Sunday Videos and Run Sheets are now posted.**

Saturday

It was a record breaking Day 2 of the 2015 SCSDA Racin’ For A Cure event at the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds in Victorville, CA. Dennis Rieck and the Hammerdown Top Fuel team were able to set a new Top Fuel World Record with a 2.208 ET backed up by his earlier 2.212. Congrats to Dennis & the whole Hammerdown team on this amazing accomplishment, these guys have worked incredibly hard to make this happen. Speaking of another team that makes the amazing look easy, Gary Mink and the Bad to the Bone had their hot rod tuned up enough to take the #1 Qualifying spot in Top Alcohol with a solid 2.47 at 134MPH. Yet another of the perennial favorites earned the top spot as Billy Morris shoed the 2 Dolla’ Bill Dragster to a great 2.957 on the 2.95 Index in Top Eliminator. Derek Balcunas is on the verge of a World Record recording a 2.788 in Pro Mod Unlimited qualifying. Derek’s Larry Minor Motorsports Jeep could set the A/Pro Jeep record with a backup run quicker than 2.843 on Sunday. The Fast Fours racers decided to determine their champion for the weekend on Saturday night. The winner would be Robert Skidmore with a 2.98 to defeat Mario Tavares. A huge story on this weekend is Hawaii’s Junior Alimoot flying in to race his friend Kenny Hayes’ Jeep and taking the Pro Gambler class win defeating absolute bracket killer Charlie Johnson in a race decided by just .006 at the stripe. Making this win all that much sweeter is Kenny Hayes also was a winner on the day taking the Sportsman 1 class win. If all of the above wasn’t enough, there was the big story line of MPC Racing’s Mark Ratliff doubling up on Saturday as he won both the Motorcycle Sportsman 1 and Motorcycle Gambler class victories. Other class winners on the day were Brandon Montgomery (Sportsman 2) and Caleb Mings (Motorcycle Sportsman 2). This weekend’s racing activities wrap up on Sunday with eliminations in all remaining classes.

Friday

Day one is complete at the 2015 SCSDA Racin’ For A Cure event at the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds in Victorville, CA. The talk of the track after Q1 tonight was about Dennis Rieck’s great Top Fuel pass where he recorded a 2.23 ET at only 143MPH shutting off a tad early. That would easily serve as a backup for a World Record, so we may be in for a treat to see if Dennis can make that happen with an ET quicker than the current record of 2.221. The big story in the Top Alcohol class is Jake Morton continuing his momentum from his win at the May race running a strong 2.48 to lead the pack. Paul Taylor ran a 3.01 in the Outta Control Dragster to lead the strong Top Eliminator field. Two of the quickest Fast Fours cars are on the property with Robert Skidmore recording a 2.87 ET to hold down the provisional top spot. Jimmy DePasse ran a 3.34 to lead the Pro Mod Unlimited class on Day 1. Saturday will be an action packed day with Sportsman and Gambler eliminations as well as the final Qualifying sessions for the heads-up categories.
