Sunday

The 2015 edition of the Avenal Sand Drags Fall Nationals in Avenal, CA is in the books after a great Sunday of eliminations. All eyes were glued on the track for the much anticipated Top Alcohol final round. Unfortunately it was an anti-climatic battle as top qualifier Jake Morton broke a rear end right off the line after a .044 to .077 starting line advantage and Gary Mink went on to the Winner’s Circle for the second weekend in a row with a 2.52. Another back-to-back weekend winner was Paul Taylor who ran a pair of 2.99’s in Top Eliminator action on Sunday to take home the top prize. The Jeep dominance of the bracket classes at Avenal continued on Sunday with Kenny Hayes (Pro 1), Mike Williams Sr. (Pro 2) and Justin Adamson (Pro 3) all taking wins. Austin Rego completed a weekend sweep as he backed up his Saturday MS1 win with the Sunday Motorcycle Pro 1 victory. Robby Stancliff also had a great Sunday as he won the Motorcycle Pro 2 class along with a semi-final finish in MP1. Junior class winners on the day were Drake Montgomery (Juniors), Jayden Pena (Intermediate), and Sky Chaffin (Youth). **Run Sheets are now posted from this event.**

Saturday

The Avenal Sand Drags Fall Nationals is underway with a great start to the weekend as Day 1 brought us a nice smooth show & excellent door to door racing. The big story in Top Alcohol qualifying was Jake Morton earning the top spot with a stellar 2.47 blast in Q1. Jake outran Gary Mink in both sessions that they ran together, so it should be an interesting final round between the two quickest Top Alcohol cars currently competing. Jim Rossi in the Bad Toy Dragster put on a tuning clinic in the first two sessions on Saturday as he ran a pair of great 2.96’s on the 2.95 class Index to take the #1 qualifying spot heading into race day. The main event of the bracket classes on Saturday was the Pro Gambler and with 30 entries strong it did not disappoint. When the dust settled it was Chris Adamson putting the Bounty Hunter in the Winner’s Circle defeating Leon Wilmot’s Blue Mule II in the final round. Leon had a shot at a double up as he also made the Sportsman 1 final round where he came up short against winner Bill Meaney. Yet another Jeep in the winner’s circle Saturday was the Flirtin’ With Disaster ride owned by Kenny Hayes & driven this weekend by Mike Williams. Mike had a solid outing all day with great reaction times to take the trophy defeating Clayton Banks in the final round. Austin Rego topped a tough Motorcycle Sportsman 1 category as he defeated the always strong Jeff Coale in the final. Other winners on the day were Mike Macleod (Sportsman 3) and Jonathan Marquez (Motorcycle Sportsman 2). The Avenal Sand Drags Fall Nationals concludes with final eliminations on Sunday.
